Childhood Sunday
I remember those Sundays like it was yesterday.
It was the night before school, and an end to play.
It was a time to dread going back to school on Monday.
We so wanted Sunday to stay.
It was when we had our weekly bath and went to bed early.
When mum was trying to keep calm, in all the Hurley burly.
And I must not forget that fantastic roast,
as well as tea time beans on toast.
It was early to bed that night,
and we had to turn of the light.
Which was abhorrent to me.
Because my book I could not see.
But I bought a torch and hid under the blankets, I didn't want to cause dissent.
But it enabled me to read to my heart's content.
I had many a great adventure with those famous five.
They were a massive part of my world and helped me to thrive.
